The SEO “Angels From Aberdeen”

To whom this concerns:

I feel very compelled to write this article about my experiences with Search Engine Optimizations (SEO) companies. My name is Brett Krauskopf, and I am the majority stockholder and president of M.U.R. Enterprises, dba www.hamiltonyorkestatebuyers.com, www.diamondbuyersnewyork.com, www.diamondbuyerssandiego.net www.diamondbuyersatlanta.com and many other websites currently in the development stage.

About 12 years ago I had the idea of publishing a website with the intent of purchasing diamonds, jewelry and fine watches from individuals across the United States who had inherited these items or had a desire to sell them as a result of a divorce. So I went the usual route and was referred by a friend to an individual who developed websites and supposedly knew about SEO. Approximately 2 months and $5,000.00 later I had my first website. I would enter the title in my browser and look at it nearly every day….but unfortunately that was the only way I could ever find it. I would type in keyword phrases such as “diamond buyers”, “jewelry buyers”, etc. and it would never display on the first few pages. So, I called the developer and was told that this just takes time, and of course a monthly fee for him to “promote” my site. Okay, I believed it and a couple of years pass with very little traffic to my site. Hmmmm, how long does this process take and how much is this going to cost?

The activity of this first site ultimately did increase a bit, but in the meantime I split up the business partnership of which this first website was an asset, and gave away this site to my former partner as part of the dissolution. It did not seem to matter much as the activity from this site was still quite marginal and only slightly profitable.

So still believing that the Internet could be a great source of business and that my original business model was a sound one, I found another referral to a website developer. Here we go again with another $5,000.00 and the same old story that it just takes a lot of time, and of course the monthly fee, to promote my website to get it to page one. Because of my prior experience, I decided to promote this new site, www.HamiltonYorkEstateBuyers.com through advertising. WOW, I’m on the top of page 1! Individuals who wanted to sell diamonds started pouring to my desktop to the extent that I was now on a plane 2-3 times a week buying large diamonds, and numerous parcels are arriving at my office nearly every day. Sounds great…….yeah, until I get my monthly advertising bill which is over $7,000.00 per month and constantly increasing! Hmmmmm, the business is great, by it seems like I am working for the advertiser as I am paying them close to $100,000.00 PER YEAR in advertising and all the while losing all this time with my family.

So, let’s get back to this SEO thing and see if I can get my site up to page 1 on the major search engines, so I can at least reduce my advertising pay per click advertising. So I research and research and ended up with a firm in Chicago that for $500.00 per month promises that within 6 months I will be at the top. I should have bought a new stereo or other such toy for all the good these guys did…..site still not showing up, and was told that it just takes more time, and of course more money. So, I fired them……..

More research and I find a company that for over $1,000.00 per month and these guys claim to be the best SEO company in the universe! Wow, great, $1,500.00 start up fee for keyword research, and then another $1,200 per month for a 6 month contract for Top Level SEO (I never did learn what that meant!). So, I give them the log in and passwords to my site and they begin their SILO research. Well, here in Indiana, SILO’s are filled with corn or soybeans, and I still believe that is what they are best used for.

This new company sends me all sorts of reports and tells me I must write new articles for my site about buying diamonds. Sure, I can do this, but what are these guys doing if I am doing all this writing. Well, they are going to upload these articles for me and “continually optimize” the pages of my website. Okay, I’ll buy this for a while as all the other SEO companies pretty much advertise the same thing. But then I start to wonder……..why don’t they just optimize all these pages in the first week so the site moves up faster? The answer to this starts to bother me, but it is the same thing I have been told over and over again for over 10 years.

So as a test, I changed the password to my site to see what happens……..and guess what, the “Top Level SEO” company, never calls or e-mails that they cannot get in to my site!!!! Absolutely unbelievable……what are they doing? To their credit, they were submitting my site to hundreds and hundreds of directories and social media sites. Great, now my mailbox is getting filled with spam mail about drugs, hookers, and all sorts of other crap!

So, at 52 years old, I decide that I have to learn HTML and SEO for myself if this is going to be my business model for the rest of my life. I join several SEO blogs and downloaded several SEO tool programs and begin to learn HTML and SEO techniques. Although a struggle, I am able to update the graphics and copy of my website, but am still on page 2 at best for good keyword sets. Page 2 is about the same as page 200 in my opinion, so I need to get this figured out soon as the pay-per-click is still breaking the bank.

And then a very odd thing happened one day as I got an e-mail asking if I was “still interested in some free SEO help”. This e-mail was in response to a question I had placed on a blog on SEOMoz a few months prior. So I figured what the heck, probably just another scam but I will reply………so I replied with “sure I’ll listen”.

AND THEN MY INTERNET LIFE CHANGED FOREVER! The very next day my caller I.D. displayed an international call which I answered to hear the voice which is now music to my ears. The voice said “Hey Mate, this is Brian from Aberdeen, Scotland and it looks like you could use some SEO help with your website”!

AND NOW TO CUT TO THE CHASE….I am writing this article on April 15th. 2010 and my first contact with Brian was on January 25th, 2010. Since this initial contact, my website www.hamiltonyorkestatebuyers.com is now on the middle to top of page one on Google/Yahoo/Bing for numerous high quality search terms. Additionally, Brian and his partner Bill have shown me how to buy high quality domain names, and design and publish my own websites! NOW FOR THE AMAZING PART……In less than three months I have 4 websites all on page 1 of Google for high quality search terms and I predict that within the next 6 months or so, to have over 30 websites which will dominate my area of business across all the major search engines. Furthermore, although I still do have a pay-per-click campaign, the total outlay is less than $1,000.00 per month and will in the near future be turned off completely.

So, to whoever reads this article, every single word I have written in this article is the absolute truth. Furthermore, I have received no compensation whatsoever for writing this article and am only doing so as my Internet “Angels from Aberdeen”, as I call them, have shown me true “Top Level SEO” through high quality, white hat optimization practices.
